Ontario International Airport Supports Local USO with $32,000 Donation

Ontario Airport Authority's 5K Raises Over $32,000 for Local USO

The Ontario International Airport Authority (OIAA) displayed its unwavering commitment to America’s troops by presenting a check for $32,079.11 to the local USO (United Service Organizations) chapter. This donation represents the net proceeds raised during the airport’s 2nd Annual 5K at the Runway event.

Held on National USO Day, February 4th, the 5K race attracted nearly 1,000 participants, including runners and community members. The unique venue – the National Guard hangar located right next to the airport’s runways – added an exciting dimension to the event.

“We are proud to support the USO, its dedicated volunteers, and most importantly, the brave men and women who safeguard our freedom through their service,” said Alan D. Wapner, President of the OIAA Board of Commissioners and a member of the USO California Advisory Board. He further commended the USO’s role in providing comfort and essential support to military personnel and their families during their travels. He also highlighted the exceptional USO facility at Ontario International Airport, which he considers one of the best in the nation.

Atif Elkadi, Chief Executive Officer of OIAA, expressed gratitude to all the participants and sponsors who contributed to the resounding success of the 5K at the Runway. He emphasized that the event not only fostered a sense of community but also raised significant funds for their valued partners at the USO.

Situated on the southern edge of the former Terminal One, the USO at Ontario International Airport has been serving military service members since 2006, and remains operational 24/7 throughout the year. Thousands of service members, many from nearby bases like Fort Irwin, MCLB Barstow, and March Air Reserve Base, utilize this facility annually.

The Ontario International Airport (ONT) has been recognized as the fastest-growing airport in the United States by Global Traveler, a respected publication catering to frequent fliers. Located in the Inland Empire, approximately 35 miles east of Los Angeles, ONT offers a comprehensive range of services, including non-stop commercial jet connections to over two dozen major destinations across the U.S., Mexico, Central America, and Taiwan.
